| About Qrendi: |
The origin of the name "Qrendi" is still a
little difficult to understand. There are indications
that it comes from an Arabic word very similar in pronunciation
means "A Mandolin Player". But this is subject
to be discussed.
The little village is situated to the south west of
the Island, between two other villages Mqabba and Zurrieq,
and it incorporates a little hamlet by the name of Hal-Manin.
The village boasts of two of our megalithic sites, the
famous Hagar Qim and Mnaidra temples. These are our
well documented and well kept temples from the Copper
Age. Other smaller finds in this village include Misrah
Sinjura and Sqaq il-Bal. The church consecrated to the
Assumption of Our Lady, became a parish in 1618. There
are also a number of other chapels in the vicinity. |
