| About Bormla: |
Cospicua (Bormla) has a population of around 6500. It
is the largest city of the three Cottonera Cities surrounded
by fortifications. Cospicua originally was a fishing
village, its importance increased with the arrival
of the Knights of St John. When the knights moved to
Valletta, they constructed docks at the Port of Cospicua
and it became a leading docking centre for ship repair
especially during the Second World War. Before the Second
World War, in Cospicua St. George's band was one of
the most popular bands in Malta and once a year there
was a big carnival parade. The 30's were the golden
years for the oarsmen of Cospicua. They have won the
8th September regatta several times. Football was also
at its best. St. George's F.C. was a great team and
was followed by many supporters. |
