Many of the island's best sights are handily nearby, with Victoria, the capital, just 3km up the road and the soaring prehistoric temples of Ggantija a little way across the farmland. Xaghra is also where you'll find Xerri's Grotto, a private house with an amazing set of underground caves located underneath featuring beautiful stalactites, and stalagmites. Virtually untouched by tourism, this gem of an island north of Malta is only 14km long and 7km wide and is no brash tourist resort - just open country sides and a wonderful calm atmosphere. Here you will find plenty of fascinating sights, from the mighty Citadel of Victoria the capital, to the colourful harbour of Mgarr and Megalithic temples of Ggantija, Xaghra. The Gozitan simple life style centers around farming and fishing, with tourism only beginning to make an impact around the fishing port of Marsalforn. Farmers still use the hoe and scythe to work their terraced hillside and commute home to hill top villages by donkey cart.
The ancient temples of Ggantija dating back to 4000B.C. Victoria - the capital and the massive Citadel built by the Knights of St John. Natural wonders such as the Inland Sea at Dwejra and Calypso's Cave with its' wonderful view of Ramla Bay.
Excellent swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.
